Shangri-La Vancouver
Shangri-La Vancouver
Location: Vancouver, B.C.
Category: Mixed Use Development
Completion Date: 2009
The Shangri-la Vancouver Hotel/Residences is the first tall building to be built under the Vancouver's new Tall Building Policy. At 646', it is almost 200' taller than the current maximum height of 450'. It created a new skyline for Vancouver. In order to "earn" this privilege, the building satisfied the City's criteria of architectural excellence, contributed social amenities such as the Public Art Site and heritage preservation of the church next door, provided a welcoming public realm and achieved a LEED Silver equivalency. With a large range of uses and pedestrian orientations, this project exemplifies the concept of liveable downtown and contextual planning.
